The newly appointed Head of Department of Environmental Design at the Polytechnic, Malcolm Quantrill, was instrumental in our being appointed as consultant graphic designers. The institution, housed in buildings scattered widely over North London and riven by continual rows between representatives of the student body and an unyielding directorate, was badly in need of some unifying feature. It really seemed that the hard-pressed staff were prepared to consider that a house style programme might be the magic ingredient. If so, they were inevitably disillusioned, but in the meanwhile we had managed to get some sensible typography executed and had a number of decent signs put up.
